With this crazy pandemic going on, who would have thought that wearing gloves and face masks would be considered “The norm” I needed to get out and take my mind off of it so I went and did some “Social Distancing” today up in the Owens Valley here in California and I must say, I had a day that all bass fishermen dream about. While the area is most well known for trout fishing there are lots of opportunities to catch some bass and anyone who knows me, that’s what I target
I started out only catching smaller bass, 11-15 inches but I probably caught 30 of them so it was still fun. Then I decided to change things up a bit to see if I could get a bigger bite and it worked.
Armed with #KistlerRods KLX Bad Boy Stick, #RevengeBaits Football jig with a Yamamoto Twin Tail Trailer with 15 pound Seaguar Fluorocarbon I proceeded to fish the REAL Heavy stuff.
The following fish were weighed on a digital scale prior to release, all were females packed full of eggs. First went 4.1, next was a fat 2.2, a 3.2 followed by a 4.2. Then I lost a really nice one that when I set the hook I couldnt turn before she buried herself deep in the slop.
Then the big fish stopped hitting and I caught another 15-20 smaller 11-15 inch ones. 1 last stop, I lower my jig into some really nasty stuff, shake in place, feel the thump, reel down and and stuck a 4.8
While they were not the giants one sees in Southern CA anyone who has fished the Owens Valley knows that these are big Northern Strain bass.
Of course all bass were released and are swimming around with slightly sore lips
Good Luck and Tight Lines To Ya!
