After doing a lot of research on tires I decided to give the Cooper Discoverer HT Plus a try so then I researched for the best price. As it turned out Pep Boys is having a 20% off special on 4 tires until Nov 9, 2013 and since their price was the same as American/Discount Tires BEFORE the 20% off and Cooper has a $60.00 rebate on the tires so it was a no brainer on who to go with.
So yesterday I made a trip down to the Antelope Valley to get the new tires for the truck and of course do some aqueduct fishing while there. I loaded up my set of black powder coated Centerlines because I wanted to go back to the completely blacked out look and off I went. I figured that I would fish first then get the tires, BIG MISTAKE.
I stopped and picked up my buddy who lives in Palmdale and off we went. Driving east on the 138 we hear a rather loud THUNK then another, what the heck? So we pull over to discover that the front drivers side tire had blown out and was separating on the inner sidewall, wow, that’s weird. So I dig out the jack as my buddy loosened the lug nuts and as it turned out, because my truck is lowered and the tire was flat we couldn’t get the jack under the frame so I place a call to the Auto Club.
Within 15 minutes they arrived and proceeded to change out the tire with my spare and we were back on our way. We hit a couple spots for nothing and it was time for my buddy to get home so we head back. As I’m driving along the truck seemed like it was really pulling to the right, as I turn onto Ave P I hear a THUNK and then it really started pulling hard to the right, WTH? I pull over and discover that the front passenger had blown out, NO WAY, not twice!!! Of course not having another spare I call the Auto Club and request a flatbed to haul me to Pep Boys to get the tires that I should have got before we went fishing.
By the way, all 4 tires still had quite a bit of tread left on them, they were just old. They were my original tires that came with the truck back in 2005 but I had removed them within a month of purchasing the truck to put on some high performance tires so the stock ones sat in my garage for about 7 years. About 5 months back I put the stock ones back on because my second set of high performance ones had worn out and I figured I would wear them down some before getting new tires. They all appeared fine with plenty of tread and they worked fine for the past 5 months. We checked the date code on the stock tires and even though my truck is a 2005 the tires were made in 2002, come on Chevrolet, what’s up with that?
Anyhow, I had the truck driver drop my buddy off at his house because we had to drive right past it to get to Pep Boys. After arriving to the Pep Boys there were some issues with the low price but we worked it all out. I ended up getting my 4 Cooper Discoverer HT Plus tires with 70,000 mile road hazard warranty good at any Pep Boys locations and alignment for almost $60.00 less than what they would have cost in my town just for the tires, and the price even included the computer alignment. The truck rides so smooth now, WOO HOO! I also like the way she looks with the black powder coated Centerline wheels.
Thanks for visiting my site. Be sure to tell all of your fishing buddies and come back soon.
Until Next Time, Good Luck and Tight Lines To Ya!
